IPA vs Chematic® 420 Operator Safety, Handling, and Exposure Limits

Isopropanol (IPA) is widely used in the cleaning of Cannabis & related residues due to its cleaning efficiency and the inability of regular detergents to do the job well.

However, cleaning is mainly manual for most steps in the production cycle, especially at the harvesting stage, which means the operators are exposed to the risks associated with IPA or any other cleaning solvent.

As an alternative to solvent cleaning, Chematic® 420, a water-based formulated detergent was designed to clean cannabis soils in its as-is form, which would mitigate the following issues listed below

Operator Safety, Handling, and Exposure Limits.

Personnel Hazard 420 vs IPA

  • The largest hazard associated with Isopropanol (IPA) is the inhalation hazard. Therefore, there are limits on how much an operator can be exposed to within an 8-hour workday. Chematic® 420, has no inhalational hazard or exposure limits.

  • Any components of Chematic® 420 associated with toxicity fall below reportable levels. Isopropanol is used as-is and is not diluted, the toxicity reported in the SDS remains the same.

  • More PPEs are required for operators handling Isopropanol, especially, for increased respiratory protection. Chematic® 420 is not corrosive and can be handled with standard PPE.
