INDEPENDENT Alfalfa FIELD TRIALS
More yield. Better quality. One application at dormancy break.
Independent alfalfa trials in Montana and Kansas showed consistent gains in yield, feed quality, and per-acre profit from a single application of Soltellus™ at dormancy break after alfalfa had 3-5" regrowth.

Montana Field Trial — Waterloo, MT
+$46/A. Two Cuttings. One Application at Dormancy Break
A 2025 field trial on irrigated alfalfa in Waterloo, Montana evaluated Soltellus™ applied once foliarly after winter dormancy break and alfalfa had 3-5" of regrowth.
Two cuttings were measured for yield and quality. Treated hay showed meaningful improvements across both:
- First Cut: $46/A profit gain
- Second Cut: $35.20/A profit gain
The first cutting also showed a +17-point gain in Relative Feed Value, +1.88% improvement in crude protein, and an additional 232 lbs of milk per ton, attributed in part to lower moisture content and increased leaf biomass in the lower canopy of the Soltellus treatment.
Kansas Field Trial — Montezuma, KS
The First Time This Field Ever Broke 231 RFV
A 2026 field trial on irrigated alfalfa in Montezuma, Kansas evaluated Soltellus™ applied once foliarly after winter dormancy break.
The first cutting was subsequently harvested as haylage. Treated haylage showed meaningful improvements in both feed quality and yield, producing a net return of $31/A after accounting for the cost of Soltellus.
This was the first time haylage from this field exceeded 231 Relative Feed Value in the field. The +7.7% dry matter improvement in Soltellus-treated haylage contributed directly to the RFV gain — lower moisture content concentrates feed quality per unit weight.
HOW TO APPLY
Simple timing. Fits your existing program
One application at dormancy break. Reapply after cuttings as needed.
Rate
Apply Soltellus at 2 qt/A. A single application at dormancy break covers the first cutting period
Timing
Apply after winter dormancy break when alfalfa regrowth is at 3–5". Both trials used this timing window.
Between Cuttings
Can also be applied between cuttings via foliar or irrigation to support in-season regrowth and quality.
Method
Foliar spray or via irrigation. Tank-mix with your existing pass — add Soltellus first. No extra trip needed.
